5 Tips for a Faster Recovery after LASIK Surgery

June 30th, 2017

Quick recovery from LASIK surgery allows two millenials to enjoy a great day!

Deciding to have LASIK surgery is an exciting decision and one of the biggest benefits is the quick procedure and recovery time. But, even though it is quicker than most surgeries, it is still surgery and you do need time to let your eyes heal. Here are five tips for a faster recovery after a LASIK procedure performed by an ophthalmologist in Northern Maine:

Don’t rub your eyes following LASIK Surgery

Immediately following your laser vision correction surgery, your eyes may feel as though they are burning or itching. We know this can be very uncomfortable but you have to make sure you do not touch or rub your eyes. It is important to leave your eyes alone so they can heal properly. If the discomfort feels like too much you should talk to your doctor.

Get plenty of rest

Your body and your eyes need rest immediately following LASIK. This means you should avoid reading, watching television, or looking at your smartphone or tablet for the first couple days after your procedure.

Protect your eyes after laser vision correction surgery

You will want to wear some kind of eye protection for the first couple weeks after surgery. Eye shields can protect your eyes while you sleep and help you resist rubbing or scratching your eyes during the day.

Wear sunglasses outdoors

Bright lights may be hard on your eyes immediately following LASIK so you will want to make sure you wear sunglasses anytime you go outside. Wearing dark sunglasses will help your eyes feel better and heal more quickly.

Follow up with your LASIK surgeon

Your doctor will mostly like schedule a post-op appointment with you about 24 hours after your surgery. Your doctor will monitor your recovery and can prescribe you any necessary medication to monitor your pain. Be sure to let your doctor know about any unusual symptoms or pain you are experiencing.
