Advanced and Standard Cataract Surgery are both performed in our Bangor and Presque Isle Surgical Centers.
Some people with cataracts don't even know it. Their cataract may be small, or the changes in their vision may not bother them much. Other people who have cataracts cannot see well enough to do the things they need or want to do.
Cataracts are very common as we age, and may prevent us from seeing clearly. Cataracts are a clouding of the natural lens of our eyes that causes declining visual clarity. Fortunately, the physicians and surgeons at Vision Care of Maine can effectively cure the condition with cataract surgery. In cataract surgery, the cloudy natural lens is removed from the eye. A permanent intraocular lens implant replaces the natural lens to restore focusing power. Our surgeons will assess how the cataract is affecting your lifestyle in combination with the clinical examination to determine which cataract surgery is right for you.
Our Basic Cataract Surgery includes the placement of a standard lens implant to restore brightness, color and clarity to images degraded by slow, progressive cataract formation. This procedure enables you to see distance, but reading glasses or glasses to correct astigmatism will be required for life. This low-cost procedure is covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most insurances.
Advanced Refractive Cataract Surgery is designed for our patients with active lifestyles. Advanced Refractive Cataract Surgery utilizes Multi-focal custom lens implants restore distance, near and intermediate distance. Designed to restore the eye’s natural ability to focus on distant, middle and near objects, new lens-implant technologies are used in conjunction with standard cataract extraction methods to help restore a full range of functional vision, from distance to reading vision with total independence from glasses or contact lenses in many cases. To further enhance your sight, our LASIK refractive surgery is used to fine tune your vision after this remarkable surgery.
The AcrySof® IQ and Tecnis family of lenses offer statistically and clinically significant improvements in night driving test conditions that simulated city and rural settings under normal, glare and fog conditions. In these tests, the Tecnis and IQ lenses performed functionally better than traditional lens implants in 34 of 36 conditions tested. The performance in 12 of these conditions was statistically significant, with the greatest advantage observed in detection and identification of city pedestrians and rural warning signs under glare and fog conditions.
Advanced Refractive Cataract Surgery is an excellent investment in your vision, and is partially covered by most insurances. or your Medicare Flex Plans.
