Vision care of Maine is proud to welcome Augustus “Gus” Stern, M.D., to our team of dedicated ophthalmic specialists. Dr. Gus Stern specializes in the treatment of Glaucoma and Corneal disease and performs advanced Cataract, Glaucoma, Oculoplastic and Refractive surgery procedures.

A native of Maryland, Dr. Stern completed his undergraduate work at John Hopkins University where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and graduated Magna Cum Laude. He then earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, graduating with honors. Dr. Stern completed his Ophthalmology Residency and Fellowship Training at the prestigious Tulane University School of Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident and received the Clinical Research Award in 2007. Following his residency, Dr. Stern completed an anterior segment fellowship in cornea and glaucoma at Tulane.

Dr. Stern has performed over 3000 refractive procedures and over 1000 IntraLase Bladeless procedures. Dr. Stern's certifications include the NIDEK EC5000 laser the AMO Intralase laser, Alcon Wavelight excimer laser and, the AMO VISX laser.

Dr. Stern will begin seeing patients at Vision Care of Maine in our Bangor facility on a limited basis in September 2011.
